Welcome to my Singapore FAQs blog post! If you’re planning a trip to the captivating city-state of Singapore, I’m here to help answer all your questions and provide valuable information for your upcoming adventure. From cultural highlights to delectable culinary experiences, vibrant neighborhoods to iconic landmarks, Singapore offers a wide range of experiences that cater to every traveler’s interests. Whether you need guidance on how long to plan your trip for, transportation options, or the best time to visit, I’ve got you covered.

What is the best time of year to visit Singapore?

Singapore is visitor-friendly year-round. That means you can visit at any time of year and expect reasonably similar weather! Singapore’s dry season falls between February to April, though the shoulder times of December – January and April – June have plenty of fair weather. Heavy rainfall in Singapore is common, but it mostly comes in sudden downpours that last less than a few hours.

If you’re interested in major festivals and events in Singapore, you won’t want to miss Chinese New Year which usually falls around January or February, and the Mid-Autumn Festival which typically falls in October. You’ll have to check the specific date depending on the year because these festivals operate on the lunar calendar.

How long should I stay in Singapore?

Plenty of people claim that 3 days is enough to see the major sights in Singapore. If you’re only interested in a quick walkthrough of the tourist highlights, three days may be enough. However, I spent a jam-packed week in Singapore exploring nonstop and still wished we had a little more time! I strongly believe that a trip to Singapore should be at minimum 5 days and optimally 7 – 10 days.

How do I get around Singapore?

Singapore has an excellent transit system. The main form of transportation is the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), or Singapore’s metro system. The train lines are simple and easy to understand. The MRT is supplemented by an extensive bus network, plus a large system of underground and aboveground walking areas that will take you through Singapore’s ubiquitous malls.

Using the MRT and bus is super easy—you can buy tickets at the machines, use contactless card payments, and even your phone!

If you don’t want to try public transportation or taxis, you can always opt for a guided tour.

Is Singapore safe?

Singapore is one of the safest countries in the world. Single women and the elderly regularly walk around and take the public transit system even after dark. Pickpocketing is also quite uncommon. We felt perfectly safe at all times in Singapore and never had to worry about our belongings or personal safety.

What language do they speak in Singapore?

Singapore is a diverse country with many language options, but the two most common are English and Mandarin Chinese. Pretty much all locals will speak excellent English (often with the charming Singaporean-British accent mix), and the ones that don’t will almost certainly speak fluent Mandarin.

Do you need cash in Singapore?

Singapore is a highly technologically advanced society and most things are paid via cell phone or credit card. You can use cash in most places if you so choose, but it may be more convenient to use tap or contactless payment for foreign visitors. The main exception to this rule is at hawker centers, where relatively few stalls take credit card or tap payment. Several of the hawker stalls have opened up to using QR code payments, but the number is not reliably high enough yet to forego having cash on hand.
